Chairman Walberg Applauds Trump EO to Protect Women & Girls in Sports

Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg issued the following statement on President Trump’s executive order to protect women and girls in sports:

“President Trump could not have found a better way to commemorate National Women and Girls in Sports Day. For too long, the integrity of women’s sports has been compromised and the safety of female athletes endangered. The previous administration tried to unravel decades of progress made by women to appease the most radical fringes of its own base. This led to female athletes losing out on opportunities and scholarships despite their dedication and commitment. This was wrong.

“Finally, we have a president that recognizes the importance of safeguarding opportunities for female athletes to compete safely and fairly. Today’s executive order ensures that women and girls won’t be pushed to the sidelines in their own sports.”

BACKGROUND
On January 14, House Republicans voted unanimously to pass H.R. 28, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which protects women’s sports from exploitation and ensures a level playing field for female athletes.
