Chairman Walberg’s Statement on Trump’s Executive Order to End Student Loan Forgiveness for Anti-American Activists
WASHINGTON, D.C.,

Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued the following statement after President Trump signed an executive order to direct the Education and Treasury departments to end the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program for activists who engage in anti-American activities such as antisemitic threats and harassment:
“Committee Republicans have long had concerns about the open-ended nature of PSLF. In fact, 25 percent of the U.S. workforce are employed in ‘public service’ occupations as currently defined, which can include everything from NPR employees to Planned Parenthood. This money has to come from somewhere—taxpayers, many of whom never went to college, are footing the bill for a program that provides hundreds of thousands of dollars in forgiveness to those making six figure salaries. “As our Committee has uncovered, colleges and universities have failed to deter antisemitic attacks on their campuses. President Trump is stepping up by preventing these activists from receiving windfalls in forgiveness benefits footed by taxpayers. The Committee stands with the Trump administration in its efforts to protect Jewish students from the hatred they’ve been enduring for the past two years. Federal dollars shouldn’t fund antisemitism, and that includes the individuals who participate in these acts. Bottom line, today’s action is in line with House Republicans' goal of delivering the reforms to PSLF that are sorely needed.” ### |
