Chairman Walberg Speaks at Press Conference on House Passage of President Trump's Big, Beautiful Bill

Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) participated in a press conference praising the House passage of President Trump's big, beautiful bill, which included the Committee's Student Success and Taxpayer Savings Plan—critical legislation to strengthen accountability for students and taxpayers, streamline student loan options, and simplify student loan repayment.

Chairman Walberg's remarks, as prepared for delivery:

"Today we are one step closer to delivering on our promise to the American people to cut government waste.

"At the Education and Workforce Committee we were able to save taxpayers nearly $350 billion and finally fix our broken student loan program.

"It’s time we stopped asking a factory worker in Michigan or a rancher in Texas to subsidize the student debt of a lawyer in Manhattan so colleges can continue to spike their tuition to whatever they want.

"By capping loan amounts and giving some financial responsibility to schools, this legislation addresses the root cause of high college costs and provides schools an incentive to deliver real value for students and taxpayers.

"We have one final hurdle, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to get this bill across the finish line."
