Chairman Walberg on the Anniversary of Title IX
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
June 23, 2025
Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued the following statement on the anniversary of Title IX:
“Since Title IX was written into law, women and girls have made huge strides in academia and athletics. Title IX gave women unparalleled opportunities to learn, compete, and excel. Unfortunately, the Biden-Harris administration and its left-wing supporters worked for years to undermine Title IX and warp the law—reducing protections and opportunities for women in favor of radical gender ideology. “I am grateful to finally have a president in the White House who understands the importance of strengthening Title IX and protecting women and girls. I remain committed to working alongside this administration to protect every opportunity for women and girls to compete and learn safely and fairly. Together, we can protect the legacy—and future—of Title IX so women and girls can thrive.” Background: Earlier this month, the Trump administration recognized June as “Title IX Month.” In January, the House passed H.R. 28, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. Authored by Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL), the legislation strengthens Title IX’s protections for women, ensures a level playing field for female athletes, and protects the law from current and future radical regulatory schemes. Last year, the Republican-led House passed H.J. Res. 165, a Congressional Review Act resolution overturning the Biden-Harris administration’s radical rewrite of Title IX that undermined vital protections for women and girls before it was struck down by the courts. ### |
