Chair Walberg Applauds Trump’s American History & Civics Priorities

Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued the following statement after the Department of Education announced that its American History and Civics Seminars grant will prioritize the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States:

“Too many Americans know too little about the history and legacy of our great country. Ahead of America’s 250th birthday, it is important we empower teachers and students to study the rich history, sacrifices, and freedoms of the United States—what it means to be an American. I am glad the Trump administration is committed to ensuring a new generation understands what it means to be American.”

Background:

Under the Biden-Harris administration, American history and civics grants were manipulated to advance woke priorities, like celebrating illegal aliens and transgender students. Adding insult to injury, grantees were also excused from any obligation to educate students about the history and principles of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The Trump administration is restoring the program to its true purpose of educating students about our rich civic inheritance, not advancing radical leftist indoctrination.
