White House’s Action on AI is Empowering Innovation and Protecting Workers

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the workforce by automating routine tasks, streamlining operations, and creating new opportunities across nearly every industry. While AI can be a powerful tool to help businesses cut costs, improve operations, and increase innovation it is also creating concern among workers who are worried about how these changes impact their jobs. As technology advances, the key challenge is ensuring that workers have access to the training and education needed to adapt and thrive in this changing environment.

This topic was one of many that came up earlier this year when the Education and Workforce Committee held a hearing with Department of Labor (DOL) Secretary Chavez-DeRemer. Secretary Chavez-DeRemer explained how DOL is protecting jobs. “AI is not going away… One of the fears often that I hear is, ‘Will AI replace my job?’ One of the things we never want to do at the Department of Labor is displace the American worker; we want to assist the American worker. I will be working with Congress and looking to them as they develop their policies to protect the American worker,” she said.

This week, the administration followed through on this promise with an executive action that will:

  • Use Bureau of Labor Statistics and Census data, in addition to creating an AI Workforce Hub at DOL, to evaluate the impact of AI on the labor market.
  • Establish general deregulatory efforts to boost innovation and adoption.
  • Create AI training and retraining—this includes enhancing employers' ability to offer tax-free reimbursement for AI-related training.

These actions embrace AI while protecting jobs and making sure no worker gets left behind by these modern changes. The executive action represents a thoughtful and forward-looking approach to innovation, where both job growth and technological advancement can coexist. President Trump is establishing a clear path forward to boost innovation in the workforce while keeping tabs on how these new technologies impact the job market. As AI evolves, so too must our strategies to keep workers competitive, empowered, and prepared. The needs of the workforce are constantly changing, and we must ensure that our workers have the skills needed to succeed in their careers.

Bottom line: Republicans are working to provide the right tools and resources so that America can remain a leader in AI.
