Chair Walberg Praises Trump for Putting Students First, Right-Sizing ED
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
November 18, 2025
Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued the following statement in support of the Trump administration’s announcement to put students first by right-sizing the Department of Education:
“The past few decades have made one thing clear: the status quo is broken. As the bureaucracy swelled, left-wing bureaucrats were emboldened to waste taxpayer dollars on a radical agenda. As a result, our students have been left in the dust. Test scores are plummeting, students can’t read, and college graduates leave school burdened by debt rather than equipped with workforce-ready skills. “The Democrat shutdown of our federal government made one thing clear: students and teachers can go to class without heavy-handed federal intervention. The Trump administration is making good on its promise to fix the nation’s broken system by right-sizing the Department of Education to improve student outcomes. It’s time to get our nation’s students back on track. It’s time to return education to those who are most committed to students’ success: their communities. “Bottom line, this is about putting students before bureaucracy.” Background: The Education Department announced six interagency agreements that will allow the Department of Education to partner with other federal agencies, including the Departments of Labor, Interior, Health and Human Services, and State, on management of federal education programs. ### |
