Today, the Education and Workforce Committee passed three bills to make it easier to open high-quality charter schools and preserve the integrity of professional boxing.

Following the markup, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) said: “Every student in America deserves a strong, high-quality education. By passing these bills, my colleagues and I are continuing to advocate for common-sense reforms which make it easier for charter schools to open and access the facilities they need to support students. In doing so, we are creating a stronger education landscape that makes it easier for families to find a school that meets their child’s needs. 

“The Committee also passed the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act with bipartisan support, underscoring our ironclad commitment to enhancing the safety and integrity of American boxing. This bill is a strong step toward protecting fighters, ensuring fairness, and honoring the legacy of one of our nation’s most celebrated sports.”

H.R. 7082, Fostering Learning and Excellence in Charter Schools (FLEX) Act, authored by Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA):

• Expands charter schools’ ability to access federal Charter School Program (CSP) funds.

H.R. 7086, Equitable Access to School Facilities Act, authored by Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ):

• Simplifies CSP requirements so charter schools can easily access high-quality facilities.
• Incentivizes states to enact pro-charter school policies and expands the number of states eligible for CSP facility funds.

H.R. 4624, Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act, authored by Rep. Brian Jack (R-GA):

• Establishes Unified Boxing Organizations (UBOs) to create new, parallel opportunities for boxers to compete fairly.
• Ensures higher, per-round pay for fighters. 
• Strengthens medical care for fighters by ensuring medical personnel are present at every fight and implements industry-wide standards for medical insurance coverage.
