Walberg Applauds Independent Contractor Rule

Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) applauded the Trump administration’s proposed rule on independent contracting, which strengthens economic opportunity, restores regulatory clarity, and empowers America’s workforce:

“America has always thrived because of the ingenuity, grit, and entrepreneurial spirit of its people. Independent contractors represent the very best of the American Dream—men and women who take initiative, build something of their own, and choose their own path. This proposed rule celebrates that spirit and updates regulations to match how people actually work today.

“Flexibility and freedom matter. For millions of Americans, independent contracting is a way to start a business, earn extra income, support a family, or turn a good idea into a real opportunity. They should be able to do that without unnecessary red tap standing in the way.

“One-size-fits-all mandates don’t work. This proposed rule restores clarity and common sense, supports job growth, and protects the freedom of workers to decide what arrangement works best for them.

“The Committee and the Trump administration remain committed to policies that promote economic freedom, strengthen small businesses, and expand pathways to prosperity for all Americans.”
