Walberg Oversight Leads to Resolution of Moody Bible Institute’s Religious Discrimination Case
WASHINGTON, D.C.,

Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) released a statement after Chicago Public Schools (CPS) reached an agreement with Moody Bible Institute (Moody). The agreement follows Chairman Walberg’s investigation into allegations that CPS barred Moody students from student teaching unless Moody changed its religious hiring practices.
"Religious freedom is a cornerstone for American life, and forcing religious institutions to abandon their beliefs is illegal and contrary to our nation’s principles. I raised concerns about Chicago Public Schools’ treatment of Moody students because no educator should be excluded from the classroom because of his or her faith. When schools sideline student educators over religious beliefs, students are deprived of exposure to a broad range of perspectives and experiences. We do not strengthen our nation by silencing beliefs—but by defending them," said Chairman Walberg. ### |
