 Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s executive order to root out waste, fraud, and abuse:

“Cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse of federal taxpayer dollars isn’t optional—it’s our responsibility as elected officials. When bad actors exploit the system, they steal from taxpayers and undermine the integrity of these programs. This is unacceptable and it must be stopped at every turn. I applaud the Trump administration for taking serious action to prevent fraud and restore accountability across the federal government.”

Background: Last week, the Committee advanced eight pieces of legislation to close loopholes, tighten requirements, and enhance the federal government’s ability to detect and punish scammers. These bills were in response to alarming reports of fraud in child care seen in Minnesota. This week, the Committee will continue this effort and mark up bills focused on stopping fraud in our student loan programs.
