Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued a statement in support of the Department of Education’s (ED) rule change restoring Title IX to its original intent. 

ED’s action follows a January 2025 federal court decision vacating the Biden-Harris administration’s 2024 Title IX regulations.

“Title IX was enacted to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex and to ensure equal access to educational opportunities,” said Chairman Walberg. “Schools need rules that are understandable, workable, and consistent with the law. Returning to the 2020 regulations restores longstanding protections for women and girls that the Biden-Harris administration attempted to dismantle and realigns Title IX policy with court precedents.”
