Walberg Statement Following Supreme Court Arguments in Religious Liberty Case
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
November 3, 2026
Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in St. Mary Catholic Parish v. Roy, a religious liberty case in which Walberg and Senator James Lankford (R-OK) led 43 Members of Congress in filing an amicus brief:
"Parents shouldn't have to choose between their faith and their child's education," said Chairman Walberg. "Faith-based schools deserve the same opportunity to participate in publicly funded programs as other schools. The Supreme Court has an opportunity to uphold religious liberty and protect educational freedom for families across the country." Colorado's universal preschool program allows families to choose between public and private preschools but effectively excluded Catholic preschools because of their religious beliefs and policies. The Members' brief urges the Supreme Court to reverse the 10th Circuit's decision and warns that allowing it to stand could undermine the federal tax credit scholarship program established under the Working Families Tax Cuts.
