Kline Statement on August Jobs Report

The U.S. Department of Labor reported this morning a loss of 216,000 jobs in the month of August, bringing the national unemployment rate to a 26-year high of 9.7 percent. Rep. John Kline (R-MN), the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee’s top Republican, issued the following statement:

“This morning’s jobs report proves what struggling American families already know – the American economy is faltering, and the tax, borrow, and spend policies of Democrats in Washington have failed to bring back the jobs that Americans so desperately need.

“America is facing serious challenges. Our health care system is in need of reform that will bring down costs while preserving quality and patient choice. Small businesses and working families need economic policies that will spur job creation. Our education system needs the freedom and innovation that will enable our children to compete and excel, rather than heavy-handed federal intervention.

“Reckless spending and government intrusion have not and will not solve the challenges we face. It’s time to put aside these partisan policies and embrace commonsense solutions that will restore fiscal discipline, empower individuals, and spur a lasting economic recovery.”
