Kline Statement on May Jobs Report

Rep. John Kline (R-MN), the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee’s senior Republican member, issued the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Labor announced 41,000 private sector jobs were created in the month of May while 15 million Americans remained without work:

“For more than a year deficit spending has accelerated at an unprecedented speed, and the economic uncertainty of government expansion has loomed over job creators. Despite the welcome news 41,000 private sector jobs were created last month, a dramatic spike in temporary Census workers paid by American taxpayers will not deliver a sustainable economic recovery.

“American families, small business owners, and entrepreneurs are the key to our economic success. Regrettably, job creators across the country are being held back by the Democrats' big-government agenda with its higher taxes and increasingly burdensome mandates. The federal budget is an opportunity for lawmakers to change course by recommitting to fiscal responsibility, yet Democrats refuse to make the hard choices required to present a budget to the American people.

“The American people are tightening their belts and making tough decisions, and they expect the same of their elected leaders. It is time for Washington to get its priorities straight, put our fiscal house in order, and give job creators the freedom they need to put Americans back to work.”
