Kline Statement on August Jobs Report

“To create a lasting recovery, we need to eliminate – once and for all – the economic uncertainty that is stifling job growth.”

Rep. John Kline (R-MN), the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee’s senior Republican member, issued the following statement today after the Department of Labor reported a loss of 54,000 jobs in August and an increase in the national unemployment rate to 9.6 percent:

“As the Obama administration’s ‘Recovery Summer’ comes to a close, the American people are facing yet another bleak jobs report and no clear plan from congressional Democrats to turn things around. Month after month, job creation falls far short of what we need to get our economy back on track. And yet month after month, the Democrats in Washington, D.C. refuse to change course.

“To create a lasting recovery, we need to eliminate – once and for all – the economic uncertainty that is stifling job growth. That means taking tax increases and other job-killing policies off the table. It also means getting runaway government spending under control and finally tackling the debts and deficits being piled on our children and grandchildren. These are some of the policies that will finally create a climate of job-creation and entrepreneurialism, and these are the steps Republicans are anxious to take on behalf of job-seekers and job-creators alike.”
