Kline Statement on August Jobs Report

U.S. House Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued the following statement on the release of the latest unemployment data:

"It has been more than two years since the start of the so-called economic recovery and businesses still aren’t hiring new workers. Today’s report confirms our nation will continue to experience a jobs crisis until Washington changes its course. Repackaging the failed policies of more government spending and debt ignores economic reality and defies common sense. Unfortunately, it also prolongs the pain felt by workers, families, and job creators.

"The American people are trying desperately to move the nation forward, yet the actions of this administration continue to block the road to prosperity. Look no further than President Obama's National Labor Relations Board, which this week imposed sweeping changes to the nation's workforce at a time when businesses are struggling to stay open and workers are fighting to make ends meet. Thanks to the NLRB's pro-union agenda, employers now face greater division in their workplaces and workers have less opportunity to exercise their right to a secret ballot union election.

"The president has had more than two years to put forward a responsible plan to grow our economy, but he has chosen rhetoric over action. As today’s jobs report makes abundantly clear, the nation cannot afford another speech that encourages more of the same failed policies of the past. By advancing positive solutions to put the nation’s fiscal house in order and remove Washington’s regulatory roadblocks to job creation, House Republicans are ready to lead the country in a better direction. It is time the president joined that effort."
