On Tuesday, February 5 at 10:00 a.m., Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert will testify at a hearing chaired by U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN). The hearing, entitled “Challenges and Opportunities Facing America's Schools and Workplaces,” will take place in room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
During the hearing, Governor Herbert will provide a state perspective on policies that could help more Americans access the training and education necessary to compete in the 21st century workforce. Additional witnesses include Jay Timmons, President and CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers, and Laura W. Fornash, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mr. Timmons will discuss federal actions that may impede job creation and economic growth, while also sharing his views on ways the nation’s job training system could be improved to help reduce unemployment. Ms. Fornash will discuss a wide range of education issues, including K-12 education reform efforts, steps states and institutions can take to lower college costs, and the value of enhanced higher education transparency.
