House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued the following statement after the Department of Labor released unemployment data for September 2016:
Another month has gone by in this slow economic recovery and working families are still waiting for a return to robust growth and prosperity. That’s why House Republicans are working to provide the American people a Better Way, and we’ve made important progress.
In recent weeks, we passed bipartisan legislation that will strengthen career and technical education and help equip more students to pursue successful careers. We also advanced juvenile justice reforms to give vulnerable youth a second chance to build a bright future and took a meaningful step in our ongoing efforts to strengthen retirement security. Additionally, the House passed legislation to provide important regulatory relief for small businesses, nonprofits, and colleges and universities.
This jobs report, along with recent news the economy remains stuck in low gear, is a reminder there’s more work to be done. We will continue to focus on advancing positive solutions to get America back on track and empower more individuals to achieve a lifetime of success.
