Foxx, Walberg Statement on Senate Confirmation of Peter Robb
WASHINGTON,
November 8, 2017
Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), chairwoman of the Committee Education and the Workforce, and Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), chairman of the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions, issued the following joint statement after the Senate voted to confirm Peter Robb as General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board: “We applaud our Senate colleagues for taking another step toward restoring fairness and balance to the National Labor Relations Board. After years of a partisan agenda advanced by his activist predecessor, we know Peter Robb has an important job ahead of him. We look forward to having a more objective NLRB General Counsel that puts the rights of workers and job creators before powerful special interests.” BACKGROUND: This week, the House passed the Save Local Business Act (H.R. 3441), bipartisan legislation to clarify what constitutes a “joint employer” under federal labor law. In 2014, former NLRB General Counsel Richard Griffin filed an amicus brief pushing the board to expand the long-standing joint employer standard. The NLRB then issued an extreme Browning-Ferris Industries ruling in 2015 that rewrote the joint employer standard and threatened local businesses and jobs across the country. H.R. 3441 overturns the NLRB’s radical policy and restores a commonsense joint employer standard. # # # |
