Foxx, Scott, Alexander, Murray, Walden, Pallone Joint Statement on White House Surprise Medical Billing Report

House Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Chairman Bobby Scott (D-VA), Senate Health Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA), House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), and Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today released the following statement on the White House’s call for Congress to pass legislation ending the practice of surprise medical billing:

“Patients have demanded protection from surprise medical bills for years. They need it in the middle of a global pandemic, and permanently after the crisis is over. Our committees have worked together to develop bipartisan, bicameral compromise legislation that protects patients from surprise medical bills and is fair to providers and insurers. The six of us—progressive Democrats and conservative Republicans—have agreed on a transparent, market-based solution that will lower patients’ premiums and will not interfere with strong protections states already have in place. It’s time for Congress to solve this problem for the American people. The American people can’t afford to wait any longer.”
