House Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued the following statement after Senate Democrats once again blocked action on a long-term, market-based student loan interest rate solution:

The stubbornness of Senate Democrat leadership is astonishing. We have a near perfect opportunity for bipartisan, bicameral agreement on an issue affecting students and their families, yet Majority Leader Reid continues to force action on a shortsighted plan that is completely out of touch with the priorities of the White House and the American public. Right now, millions of students trying to prepare for college and apply for financial aid are facing higher interest rates – all because a cadre of Senate Democrats are completely unwilling to compromise. It’s time to stop playing spiteful political games and move forward with a long-term solution.
