Kline Statement on President’s Student Loan Announcement
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
June 9, 2014
House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued the following statement after the president announced new unilateral action on student loans: The challenge a lot of college graduates face in the Obama economy is finding a good paying job. For many, the dream of launching a successful career after graduation has turned into a nightmare of debt and unemployment. It doesn’t take a degree in political science to see today’s announcement as another distraction from the president’s failed policies. Nothing the president announced today will make the cost of higher education more affordable; nothing the president promised will help graduates find the jobs and opportunities they desperately need. Washington Democrats should stop treating students and families as political pawns and start working with Republicans on real solutions that will move the country forward. The House remains focused on policies that promote job creation, so that every graduate who wants a job can find a job. The committee will also continue its work to strengthen the postsecondary education system through reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. The president should join these efforts, rather than stage more campaign-style events at the expense of students and families. # # # |
