Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), chairwoman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, today issued the following statement in support of the Trump administration’s selection of Dr. A. Wayne Johnson to fill the position of chief operating officer at the Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA):

Dr. Johnson has his work cut out for him, and we stand ready to assist him as he takes on this new position at the Department of Education. The committee has consistently raised concerns over the mismanagement of the Office of Federal Student Aid, and we hope Dr. Johnson can work with Secretary DeVos to bring accountability and leadership to the office. When over $1 trillion of federal student loans are at stake, an honest, efficient, and dedicated public servant is what is required for the position, and we look forward to assisting Dr. Johnson in making the office work for both students and American taxpayers.

Chairwoman Foxx urged the Department of Education to quickly fill the position after it was vacated by James Runcie.
