Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Miguel Cardona as President Biden’s Secretary of Education:
"Education is under attack in our country. The teachers’ unions and left wing special interest groups are keeping our schools closed, despite the serious consequences for students’ academic success and mental health. Now more than ever, we need a Secretary of Education who will put the interests of students and families above all else.
"As a former educator, I know our education system is in desperate need of reform. The status quo currently traps too many kids in failing schools, saddles too many students with crippling debt, and shows too little concern for taxpayers. I hope Mr. Cardona will rise to meet these challenges and work in a bipartisan manner to foster an educational system that is built around those it serves, not those who run it."
