Foxx Statement on Biden’s Title IX Executive Order

Today, Republican Leader of the House Education and Labor Committee, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), issued the following statement after President Biden signed an Executive Order demanding the Department of Education reevaluate Trump Administration Title IX rules:
“The right to due process is bigger than partisan politics - it is a cornerstone of American democracy. By overturning these stakeholder-vetted, court supported rules, key protections for victims and the due process rights of the accused would be jeopardized. Perhaps President Biden has forgotten that the presumption of innocence has protected many liberal elites from sexual assault allegations. College students should be afforded the same rights and protections as Democrat politicians.”
BACKGROUND: In May 2020, the Trump Administration issued updates to the Department of Education’s Title IX rules that formally protected victims of sexual assault under the sex discrimination law for the first time and increased due process rights for the accused.
