Biden’s Failing Report Card on School Reopenings

We are 97 days into the Biden administration and one of his first promises - that America’s schools will reopen for in-person learning in his first 100 days - is set to be broken. That is, unless you believe White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s ridiculous claim that a school is considered “open” if it welcomes students just one day a week.

Republicans listened to the science and pushed for safe school reopenings. Democrats, at times defying the CDC, instead sided with teachers unions over millions of struggling students and parents, even as union leaders collected poolside paychecks.

Ahead of this week’s address, we’re giving President Biden a grade on what the Wall Street Journal called “one of the great scandals of the pandemic.” Spoiler alert: it’s not looking good.

It is past time to open schools. End the political theater. Put students back where they belong: in schools and in the forefront of education policy decisions.
